Re: Second build

I am now able to smoke in the main cook chamber. Then continue to work on the WC. Tomorrow I get to go pick up the rest of the steel. The door is big so I have to buy a half sheet of quarter inch plate to be able to cut it out. Then I just need to build the shelves and will be able to cook for more...

Re: Fire management questions

If you want my thoughts I’ve been at this for about 8 years now. My opinion (and please no offence) Burn wood that is at least a year old. Older than that don’t make a difference. Maybe hickory and mesquite is different. I managed a 400 acre orchard I’ve got wood that is 10 years old it burns that s...

Second build

It’s been a while since I posted anything. I have built a second smoker she cooks amazing. My first smoker was a 500 gallon I figured it was to big so I sold it and built a smaller one. I miss the space so I’m adding to this one a warming cabinet, which I plan to cook with. I have ordered insulation...

Re: cracked welds

I'm a farmer so my welding is not professional but my opinion, my welds have never broke. I don't know what kind of welder you are using. I have stick feed, wire welder, tix and mig, everything except the stick is rested for no more than 1/4 inch. When I had welded thicker steel I find I can't get i...

Re: Hey all!! Have a question

2 questions, one: the pictures of the firebox how do you like the basket you have in it. (The diamond plated one) it looks like you would get better air flow and control on your ashes. Two: can you expound on how you use the GF do you just fill the tube with coal and light the bottom or? I've never ...

Re: Hey all!! Have a question

The GF is an intriguing system. Is there a place/link or something I can go to to see one operate? Or does this site sell plans to a GF?

Re: Hey all!! Have a question

Nice smoker I am jealous, so I assume there is technically no "bottom" plate if that makes sense on your WC it is the top of your FB, or at least mine since my smoker is all built without a WC. I am just going to throw up the walls and build it right on top of the FB. What is the name of the insulat...

Re: Hey all!! Have a question

Hey Rodcrafter,

Would it be to much to ask or to much of a bother to request pics of you WC? Inside and out?
I am wondering if it difficult controlling heat, heat difference from CC to WC. Heat from top of WC to bottom. Information like that?

Re: Hey all!! Have a question

We prune the trees on the orchard in the winter time I normally start burning to heat my house that following winter so about 1 year. I enjoy smoking with apple. The reason I wondered if might be the ventilation is the best smoking I've had so far is when we had lots of wind. I always point the smok...

Re: Hey all!! Have a question

I don't know if I quite answered your question at 30 minutes there is a nice bed of coals but not good enough to take the new logs fast. The smoker is a little picky as of now.

Re: Hey all!! Have a question

I've never used charcoal yet. I live and manage a 400 acre orchard so all the wood I want is free. So on my last smoker it was a 500 gallon propane tank. I would build a fire it burnt awesome. Burning wood I would get to the temp I wanted and every 25-30 minutes I would add 2 fist sized logs about 1...

Hey all!! Have a question

I've built my second smoker I love it cooks nice and even and the BBQ is awesome. I don't know if it's because of the size of the fire box which is the correct specs off the plane that I bought from smoker builder. When the fire is built if I don't add wood exactly at 25 minute the fire will go out....
