Re: DP GF with cut file.

What I do is light from the bottom with a torch then use a BBQ Dragon to get it up to temp and then raise it about 10 degrees hotter. Then let the BBQ Guru take over. I get mine up to temp in about 15-20 minutes with it burning with light blue smoke or near clear.

Hey Frank and all you other builders out there! I just got this email about the free smoker plans and what a great way to get more builders here. l and I haven't been here in a while but have been enjoying my gravity feed build. Re: If You Could Build it Over Again - All GF Builds!

My build has many of the mods that you suggest. The only changes I would like would be to put a catch pan in front for when I pull the trays forward to catch drippings.

You should also install a rotisserie. My build has one.

Post up pics.

Observations and questions on brisket

Hey guys, I did a brisket and pork shoulder this weekend and had a few observations and I have a few questions. Prime brisket (19.1 lbs before trimming) injected and dry rubbed, cooked at 220 in my gravity feed. Brought up to 170 degrees in the point before foil wrapping and adding a coke. Started p...

Re: temperature range with Gravity feed smoker

I have had mine up to 500 degrees by accident. Don't recommend it. I was starting it up using a BBQ Dragon and wife needed something. Panels started warping door started to buckle. Good thing welds didn't pop. It took a while to cool it down and luckily it went back to its normal shape. The highest ...

RC it is called physics. Fulcrums, levers, counterbalances, blocks and wedges. Someone once said give me a lever long enough and I can move the world.

Re: Double Pan smoker weight.

I modified my build and used 14 gauge skins and is probably between 700-800 lbs. I built my life ne by myself. It is a beast and I am only 5'7". I built my frame and then built the bottom and then stood it upright. After that everything was done right side up. It is possible but you have think about...

I built a shelf on mine. As deep as your shelf is it might get really hot if you do not have enough insulation behind it.

Re: Gravity feed pellet feeder

That is a great idea! I used a motorcycle baffle tube and used pellets in it and placed it in the lower part of the firebox. Buying the right size baffle tube is cheaper than one of those A maze n smoken tubes.

If they are straight cuts I use my Milwaukee metal cutting saw. It was an expensive purchase but it cuts excellent and you can hold the pieces afterwards with minimal heat.

I welded the bottom plate on first. This gave the sides a shelf to rest on while I tack welded. It was also lighter to flip over since I was building it by myself (Stump's Clone).
