Re: New to me machine

Great find on the welder T! I'm rarely that lucky lol. I'm with you guys on the new platform. I guess it doesn't completely suck, but it's definitely not as easy to find and follow actual build threads - at least not to an old geezer like me who is so clueless about social media. I sure miss the old...

Re: collector efficiency...or not

Hello Chris, I tend to stay in the “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it” camp. I don't think I have any BIG airflow problems, but since smooth laminar(mostly) airflow is essential to my occupation, why not aim for more efficiency in the smoker? But it sounds like you probably know a lot more than I do ab...

Re: 24 x 46 RF Patio Build

I know it's no fun to break equipment but congrats on the new Lincoln. I've been looking at new ones for several years but my trusty old Lincoln just won't die! Hope you get as much use out of yours as I have which will make the investment well worth it. Thanks! Yeah I know what you mean. It sucked...

Re: 24 x 46 RF Patio Build

Thanks Gents! Its going OK so far...just slowly! Looks like you have a nice shop to work in too. I’m jealous. I have to work outside, no shop. Thank you! It's nothing special - just a modest little 20x20 steel building I built 2 years ago. I wish it was a little bigger, and I wish it was insulated, ...

Re: 24 x 46 RF Patio Build

The holidays kept me busy enough to prevent posting updates, although work on the smoker has continued slowly but surely. I hope everyone who still comes around had an enjoyable holiday season and a happy new year! One thing that slowed my progress was my mig welder crapped out in early December. Ma...

Welcome aboard! Nice charcoal chimney! I currently run an insulated gravity fed cabinet, and I’m in the process of an RF build. I expect you’ll love either! :kewl:

Re: SmokerBuilder Forum Is Moving!

I joined the new app couple weeks ago…still trying to figure out how to use it and navigate. I’m one of these geezers who don’t do FB, IG, Twitter etc…so I’m a real social media amateur! I, for one, will be sorry to see the original forum go away…suppose it’s mostly resistance to change on my part l...

That's a nice find for sure...I would have probably bought every brisket they had in the store at that price.

Re: cam-stays

good point big t! yeah i was just thinking of using them just to hold the lid open, not for an assist. of course the cW would make that part easier. ill order them for my build and see how they work Agree with T about them not really replacing a CW…but still, I’ll be interested to see how that work...

Re: Thanksgiving Brisket

I actually ran my pit yesterday...wanted to be able to enjoy today without worrying if the meat would be done in time for a 12 noon feast (just like you, DT, my wife sets the time - I'm expected to meet it). My bunch (esp. Mrs. Red) expects a variety of Thanksgiving day meats, so I smoked a large bo...

Re: 24 x 46 RF Patio Build

Keep at it....looks really good! Thanks man! Worked on getting the BP ready to install this morning…but realized I gotta make a run to the steel yard for a few odd and ends, and gotta get a 1 1/2” hole saw to cut the drain. Also ran out of shielding gas, so I’ll also have to make a run to the LWS. ...

Re: 24 x 46 RF Patio Build

Well progress has been slow because life gets in the way. But I was able to spend some time in the shop this morning. Spent most of that time with a grinder and my surface conditioning tool, cleaning up plasma dross and surface rust in the cook chamber and on the CC door. Then I got the cook chamber...

Looks like you're off to a great start! Pretty close in size to the pit I'm working on right now - although mine's a Reverse Flow.

Looking forward to watching your progress!
