Watching this build closely as I am considering something similar. I want to take the Hopper assembly out of my Modified Traeger 075 and install it into a 32w x 24d x 45t (inside dimensions) insulated cabinet that I will build out of 1.5" square tubing.

I would watch it for what not to do I am sure. My metal and welding skills leave much to be desired.

I do have one question concerning the controller. The current unit is the digital controller but it doesn't look in great condition. Would it be worthwhile to swap it out for a more advanced controller? If so any recommendations?

I like the new 'cool down' feature - I think that makes it worth the swap out right there.... :D

On a personal note next time I will either get a much better sandblaster or just don't bother trying to save the original chamber.

I remember how much I hate trying to clean this thing out

On the subject of the controller. I installed a PID controller from Auber some years ago now and have never looked back! Love the control and the temp stability.

Do you have a model number that works well with a traeger hardware?

Started to fabricate the frame and mount the smoker. Moving a little slow but really only doing this on my lunch breaks right now.

Also partnering with my friend who is an electrical engineer to use a raspberry pi computer to be a custom controller for the smoker with wifi monitoring and control.

The project expands further haha.

Definitly moving forward there. Well done.

It looks like you chose not to insulate between the skins is that right? I only asked because of the title of the thread. I hear that the pellet drive systems work better without insulation because they really need to stay hot.

Finished painting and started to assemble the unit with the 1" roxul insulation. Everything is sealed inside and out with high temp silicone.

Just waiting for handles to finish the door and install my custom control unit.
