I don't think I would mess with it as long as it's big enough to fit whatever wood you're going to be using.

Agreed. I would have done about 110% just to have room for an ash pan but definitely would not mess with it at this point. Most people don't put ash pans on round boxes anyway so I'd say just keep moving forward.
