Smoke Stac Collector question

Post by sinor81 » August 12th, 2022, 4:21 pm

Hi Guys!
Is there any rule, calculation, how big the smoke stack collector should be?
I have two self-built offset, one Franklin copy, the other also Franklin copy, with some own ideas and changes, but I am not completely satisfied with them.

Not an expert but the pattern I see on all smokers is that it should be as tall as the pipe diameter, so on a 6" ø ID you'd want the collector to be 6" tall also; generally as wide as the cooking chamber or a bit less, and long enough to fit the pipe comfortably. I feel as long as it's as tall as the stack diameter the rest is up to "what looks best"

It can be shaped any way that you'd like as stated above. The only rule is that it can't be a point of restriction.

Thank you guys!

And what if the collector center point is not exactly in the middle of the cc, it's ca 1" upwards? As shown in the picture. Could this be a problem?

I mount the exhaust stacks as high as possible on the CC so I don't think an inch off center will create a problem.
