First offset smoker build

Post by Eric_Tuell » July 22nd, 2022, 4:09 pm

I started my first build today. It will be 28”x48” open design offset with a square fire box. Is it best practice to use Photobucket to post pics or is it okay to upload straight from my phone?

I used an old serpentine belt and some magnets for a guide

I would load them straight from your phone to the forum, I use the tapatalk app. There are a lot of older build threads that don't have any pictures with them because of something that changed with photobucket.

Got one end closed up. I had to make a circle cutting tool for my plasma cutter because my hands are not very steady

Good idea! I bought a cheap 4' ruler/straight edge at Harbor Freight, and put a round bend in it to use as a cutting guide on my tank (stole the idea from one of Frank's YT videos). Worked pretty good, but your idea sounds simpler.

Thanks, I am going to start making some of the small parts while I wait on the steel for the fire box.

I still don’t have the steel I need to build the fire box :hissy: so I built the cooking grate. I guess tomorrow I’ll start cutting out all the small parts and get them cleaned up, just so I can keep moving forward

It's all the small things that seem to take the most time so if you get a lot of them done now, you'll be ahead in the long run.

Thanks Big T. I scored a stainless restaurant prep table today that I’ll cut down for a shelf on the front

This is so true. Being someone who had never done a build before, it's been a little eye opening how long some of the little stuff ends up taking when you add it all together or when you need to make another ace hardware or junk yard scavenger hunt run.
