Post by Frank_Cox » March 30th, 2017, 1:08 pm

Hey Fellers, just so you know we now have the CNC cut file available in .Dxf format for the gravity feed double pan smoker if you're interested let me know! If you haven't purchased the plans yet you can purchase the file while you purchase the plans. If you already have the double pan plans but you want the CNC file shoot me a message and I'll tell you how to get it!

Squiggle, if you get the dxf files your cnc plasma/laser/waterjet shop can do them in inches. I'd definitely like a set of dxf files as the ones I made for cutting mine out have got corrupted on my computer.

Yeah but if I cut the plates in imperial then the rest of the stuff(i.e. Frame box etc) will have to be in metric & measurements will gain & loose over the lengths. Found this out building the mini, tried using imperial cuts for the FB assemble only to find the box frame wouldn't match up & had to adjust all other measurements. :D

Purchase an imperial tape measure. =)) Just make sure it's got all the weird stuff marked so you can go down to 3/32 and all that jazz.

What I'm doing with the mini is convert to mm and then I cut out the cook chamber. I've bent up the walls to cut down on welding. I'll weld the top and bottom on so I have basically a complete cc. I'll then make the charcoal chute and firebox complete. Then and ONLY then I'll make the frame to fit the cc and chute assembly.
That way I can fiddle the measurements to ensure it all fits together nicely. And once it is inside the frame then I'll measure the outside of the frame and cut and bend the outside skin accordingly.
I got bit in the bum a bit with the double pan by cutting EVERYTHING out and then assembling the frame and then fitting the cc and chute. A lot of grinding, cutting and swearing came out of that shed mate... I'd like to think I am a tad wiser for all that graft.

Hi Frank. Hope all is well. I will be purchasing the plan to build the double plan gravity smoker soon I believe and would be interested very much interested in obtaining the cut file. If I may ask you for some advice; I live in Bogota at 8000ft above sea level so I will need some thick gauge/insulated walls. This specific plans is one for a heave gauge/insulated smoker yes?

I'm sure Frank will be along very soon, but sometimes he's a little busy. The DP has about 2" thick insulated walls & I think the skin is 16ga(but you can make it thicker, I did on the inside of my mini GF). I'm pretty sure you will be fine with a DP GF unit cause the insulated walls on the plan are great for heat retention. kewl:

I was about to pull the trigger on the mini but I am wondering if the single pan might be better, and plans for a cut file? The DP is too big for me

Frank told me that you can increase the size of the CC on the mini by about 25% without Having to modify the FB, if that helps any. :kewl:

But then the cut file would be obsolete. :?
