Mini GF PID/fan idea

Post by achris03 » June 19th, 2021, 5:13 am

Hey guys. Looking for some input on putting together a PID/fan combo. So I’ve got the plans for the Mini GF and I’m a looong way from home working which gives me lots of time to think. Lol. Anyway I’m leaning towards the Auber wifi controller only because it has fan speed control. But I’m wondering if a pc fan would be enough to get the job done. You can get them into the 100’s of cfm but I was thinking somewhere about 40. I know cfm is cfm but would it have enough power to move air all the way through the smoker? I took the liberty to redraw the frame/firebox on an app I’ve been playing with to illustrate my idea. I just don’t like the blowers you can buy hanging out of the front of the smoker.

Ideally, you are going to want some "throttle" control over the fan.

Me, I already had a HeaterMeter (fan and damper control) when I built my double pan GF, it's based on an rPi. There's really no need for a full PC, IMO.

Not planning to use a pc. Just a pc fan like this one.

and this for a controller. And it has fan speed control so its able to throttle the fan.

And I am probably going to put a damper butterfly in the tube leading to the firebox.

What CFM fan did you use with your heatermeater for the dp gravity fed? Thanks

I ended up building one of those, IIRC, I have a 15CFM fan in it.
