Santa Maria Numero Dos

Post by hogaboomer » May 2nd, 2021, 4:26 pm

Got the new one done, just a bit of welding left, and paint. Beefed up the grill and fire grates, this time. The first grill grate has warped on me a little, fire gets pretty hot.

Looks you’ve got it dialed in. The coal rack looks great. Love the gear setup. Did you make a template for the gear?

No, I bought that and the stopper on Amazon, they're made by Lavalock - $20

They're laser cut, I can't make anything that slick.

I got some better toys on the way to make things easier. Nothing too fancy, though. Not like the CNC plasma I need, anyway.

Awesome grill! Is this your own design or did you purchase plans?

No, I kept that one for myself, because it was a little amateur looking. I did an experiment trying to make a round grill out of angle iron, and it came out a little not so round.

Great work Boomer. Bet that would work great on a swing arm on my new-to-me trailer. Back side of the smoker.

That's brilliant, Boomer. Love the cable ratchet and pawl setup. We have a cheap store bought grill similar but the raising mech is chain over a rudimentary hook n block setup. This is so much nicer. :)

It really does work nice and smooth. What surprised me is the way the point of the pawl locks into the bottom of the ratchet teeth and stops the whole thing from turning, just from the bind it creates. You don't have to build in any kind of special stop, because it stops itself automatically.
