Little Baby Santa Maria

Post by hogaboomer » May 14th, 2021, 2:41 pm

I had a little BBQ pit that I had made a while back. It never got used much, because it just got way too hot. So, I thought I'd see if this worked better, for little small cooks. Need to go to HEB and get some meat to put on it. This one has a spring loaded crank, eliminating the ratchet and pawl.

Really cool boomer. How’s the spring loaded crank work?

I put a half inch threaded rod in the end of the 1/2 inch pipe and plug tacked it in. Three holes in the square tube are drilled to 7/8ths to let the pipe through, and the last hole is drilled 1/2 inch, to let only the rod through. Put a spring over the rod and tighten it down with a nut, until you get it tight enough to hold the grill up on its own. When you want to go back down, you just turn it the opposite direction.
It works pretty sweet. They told me how to do it on the Santa Maria Grilling page.

Don't know yet, but pretty sure it will. Just tighten the nut some more if needed. I tried pushing down on it and it held.

They're a whole lot easier to build than smokers.

Thanks! Just a little salvage job. Just got the primer on, finish painting this afternoon, and try it out tomorrow.

Chicken thighs and burgers, maybe a pork chop or two. Nothing too highfalutin.
