Franks Dream Offset Smoker Build

Post by Frank_Cox » July 14th, 2022, 8:16 am

Howdy all!
I been working in this Smoker for a while now and decided to do a photo dump of the progress so far!

I am making a complete series of YouTube videos for this Build but editing takes a long time so you’ll see it here first [emoji106]

Anyway, I started with 3 long skinny 500 gallon tanks. They are 1950’s AO Smith tanks.
Here’s a data plate:

Here’s a pic of a couple of the tanks after I cut them:

I cut 47 inches off of them. That is the firebox and the rest is the main cooking chamber.

The 3rd tank I cut in half to use for the vertical warmer.

All in all I made them parts to build 2 smokers like this.

Then my boy Joe and I cut removed the paint using a needle gun and a surface conditioning tool.

Here’s some pics of that:

I used that process because I wanted to leave some mill scale and I didn’t want the texture the sandblaster leaves behind.

Be sure to wear a respirator, wear, and eye protection while doing that process!

Anyway, then I built the trailer:

As of yesterday I have the warmer fit to the cooking chamber, tacked with a few stitches, stood up, and mounted to the trailer!

Next step is to fit up the firebox and mount it to the rear end of the smoker!

This one has been a lot of fun so far and I can’t wait to fire it up!

I have shot video of the entire process so far and will post those to the YouTube channel as we get them edited!
