I saw the ones at our local lowes, the one in stock was the rage model, kinda all purpose saw, they also have one the is designed for metal cutting as its main function. Lowes was willing and able to order one for me, priced seemed in line with other suppliers

Don't waste the money on the evolution, bought one and returned it the next day, very poorly made and the blade is junk. Save you're pennies and get the milwaukee with the lennox blades. It should tell you something when the evolution saw with blade is 89.99, and just a lennox blade is 55.00.

I hear ya RR! I did buy the evolution chop saw that Lowes Carries for $299 the blade for it is $78 and is 14". They do make better saws and blades than the ones Lowes has.
My money is still on the milwaukee saws with Lennox blades tho.

I know this is a super old post, but my question is about the Milwaukee metal saw as well.

Can you do plunge cuts with this to get your door cuts started? Or is that dangerous? What about cutting the end off a propane tank? Or should the cuts be started with a cutoff wheel first?

I have the Milwaukee metal saw. Short answer, yes, you can do plunge cuts with it, but it’s no fun. Sorta nerve racking. You have to manually compress the blade guard with one hand while controlling the saw with the other. Other than that, the saw is a beast. You’ll like it. Learn how to use it or you’ll be sinking a lot of money in new blades. Enjoy!

Looks great , I posted on one of the other threads about a Evolution saw has mini circuit breaker , does the Milwaukee have any thermal protection ?
My tanks are 1/2 thick steel compared to the thinner propane or oil tanks .
Thanks
Greg

Frank,

Fast forward a couple of years since this was posted, what saw do you reccomend for making cuts? I bought a Diablo blade and put on my cheap old circular saw, cut for a while then stopped. Havent tried putting blade on my good dewalt yet. Jut wanted to know what you recommened these days.

I bought one of these metal circular saws to cut the door on my last build. The thing is great for cutting doors. I did the plunge cut to get started. It wants to bounce around a bit when you first start, but once you get going it's awesome.
I tried to make a cut on some 24 inch standard wall, 3/8ths thick pipe. It worked OK for a while, then it started getting hot and smoking and wore the blade out. A Diablo Cermet blade. So they are great for some things, but they do have their limitations. I bought a Makita, BTW.
This is the door I cut on a 250 gallon propane tank, it was maybe a hair under 1/4'' wall. I cut this door out in 15 minutes and it needed minimal dressing up, just a couple spots in the corners where I cut too far. You can see on the bottom right about 6 inches from the end where I started the first plunge cut and it kind of grinded out a little spot before it got going good
