New from Wyoming

Post by jwheron » April 14th, 2022, 6:40 pm

Hey everyone I’m Joshua I live in a small town in Wyoming and I join this forum to learn and I just bought my first start to my build a tank Image
So know I’m doing it. I’m building one. It’s a 80 gallon tank it’s 22 inch wide x 60 inch long. I’m new to offset smokers so I’m jumping in with both feet. Why not right. I might start a build in a couple week. So please give me inputs and some advice I’ll need it all. Thank everyone

Welcome aboard. Building is a ton of fun. My advise would be to spend the next couple weeks reading through the forum to find little nuggets of info that you will be able to refer back to as you start building. Think about how you want to cook on it. Different designs will typically shift the hot spot in different places so based on that one design might be more ideal for you. Also don't be afraid to change your mind after learning more. It's metal and you can always add and remove more metal from it. I changed my plans several times as I learned more and more and I couldn't be more happy that I wasn't afraid to do so... Which reminds me I need to update my thread soon.

# 1 rule: Have fun with it

If it's tourist season, how come I can't shoot 'em?

Welcome!

I have family that lives in Medicine Bow. I even bought a single wide trailer on a corner lot next to my in-laws there few years ago before prices got crazy, so that me and my wife would have a place to stay while visiting.

As for your build, you'll get alot of great help here. I know I did.

I just got done with my first ever build (never welded before ether), and loved every minute of it. I started mine before finding this site, and made a few mistakes that I may not have made if I found this site before starting.

As ThinBlue said, "It's metal and you can always add and remove more metal from it." Which is something I'll be doing on mine. I want to redo the throat to try and even-out the temp accross the grate, if possible.

Any way, welcome!
