I realize this is an old post but I just ran across it and had to say VERY nice job! You've got some pretty serious carpentry skills there.

that was a great thread, enjoyed reading the entire thing. your craftsmanship in working and metalwork is amazing. would have never thought wood and foam board would make a cool smoker, but you just showed me it would.... super nice looking and the maze is awesome how much smoke it makes and the burn time on it.....      :LG:

After 8 hours in the smoker, the pork butts were ready for pulling.

Pulling pork is a perpetual pain in the posterior and something I wanted to speed up so I went to Ace hardware and bought a cast iron floor drain (like you probably have in your basement floor) a few 3/8 bolts and nuts and a 12 inch long bolt to make the perfect pork puller.

I invited the folks from Youtube over to have some pork and to video the perfect pork puller in action. The pork is only minutes out of the smoker and very hot. You will notice the steam. The Youtube folks were nice and all but they sure can eat. Click below to watch the video.

I only pulled two of the butts, the other 3 will be vacuum sealed and frozen for another day. Then I added just a splash of BBQ sauce to the two I pulled and mixed it tp.

Add some beans, potato salad, a bun and a big frosty beverage and call it day.
Sweet idea! Getting mine together tomorrow. About 40 lbs to do this week.

Very nice looking smoker! Are you able to regulate the temperature of the propane burner from the outside, or do you have to open the door and adjust the three valves?

Hello, im new to this forum and i have be looking into buying or building a smoker for a few months now. Your idea looks awesome, i have a couple of questions though. Were did you get the aluminium for your project? What is the optimum distance the wood pan can be from the heat source so the wood chuncks dont catch on fire? Any help would be appreciated.

I have the same basic setup for heat. The cast iron skillet is key to the wood not catching fire IMO. My burner sits just a couple of inches below the skillet and I've never had a problem.

Wow! You have done an amazing job on this build. Quite tedious work, detailed and clean. Thank you for repeating your work in this thread. Inspiring !!! Another of my favorite reads. No clue how I ever missed it for a year.

RC.......your build is a thing of beauty. I have wanted to build something similar for about 3 years now but life will sometime get in the way. But now that I have some spare time coming to me. your smoker will be my inspiration to "get to it".

Sorry about posting to this older post. I'm getting ready to start to build something like this. I have the burner on order from Northern Tools and trying to find a pipe that will work with the burner and gas line. Everything that I've seen so far is a different thread. Where did you get the fittings that converts it from the water type of thread to a gas thread?
