250 build

Post by Back9Q » November 17th, 2022, 9:09 pm

Well I sold my last build and using funds to go bigger

Keeping this one simple with a rounded 250 on casters with a single door. 30” outer FB with 24” inner. Will run an air gap on this one

Built gantry crane to move things around and had two tanks delivered from GA. Was able to get frame built and CC rolling today. Will work on it some more after Thanksgiving

Congratulations on finding a couple tanks, they are hard to find around here.

Can’t wait to see more pics of your build.

If you live in southeast there is a guy in GA that has a ton that have been blasted and valves removed. Pricing is good also

Solid start! Much easier to work with once it's on wheels.

Thank you for the info, but unfortunately, I don’t. I live on the western slope of CO, long ways from GA.

I’ll keep looking. Thanks again for the info!

What is the standard these days for distance door starts down from top center tank? I have quite a few valve holes that I am going to leave but debating on if I need to rotate tank and recenter top. I would probably have start door 4-5” down from center if left as is

1" above top dead center for keeping rain out and 1" below horizontal center if you want a pull out shelf.

Idk how I’m just now catching this, but you guys are running the top of your doors beyond tdc of tank? Or are you saying 1” below tdc?

An inch above so the rain doesn't run into the smoker

That part makes sense, and is what finally made me realize that wasn’t a typo. I can’t remember seeing one with the doors cut above tdc though. Especially on the larger diameter pits. I cut mine at like 2” below on a 120g and I def get rain inside

Don't confuse top of door with bottom of door. The TOP cut is often 1" past top center (towards the back of the tank) so any rain will fall off the back of the tank and not down the front, under the door and into the tank. The width of your flange will allow for some wiggle room in this. The BOTTOM cut is often 1-2" below vertical which allows for the top of a slide out shelf to be at exactly center. My shelves are made of 1x1 angle so my cut is 1.5" below vertical and my shelf top is at center and the extra half inch prevents finger pinch. If you are not using slide-out shelves, your cut can be at vertical.
